Brass Sheet
Available formats: Badges and plates.
Broncesval Brass Sheet, with a chemical composition CuZn37 is used for a wide variety of purposes that involve cold work by forming, stretching, turning, etc.
Lamp covers and switch components. Strip and wire for springs and contacts
To avoid this, the 64/36 composition is now more commonly used. Except in particularly aggressive environments, CuZn37 slowly fades to a uniform opaque bronze color without bites or localized attacks. Its original appearance can be preserved, if necessary, by regular lacquering or polishing.
Since these bronzes do not contain arsenic to inhibit decincification, they are not recommended for service in contact with seawater. However, they are the standard materials for the central pipes and head tanks of car radiators and similar coolers that operate with fresh water recirculation or inhibited antifreeze solutions, and are completely satisfactory for that purpose.
Heat treatments:
Known as "common brass," this is a good general purpose alloy suitable for simple formation.
The CuZn37 brass, with 63% Cu and 37% Zn, has a zinc content very close to the maximum for all alpha brass. Modern methods of band production involve rapid cooling after annealing and can result in small amounts of beta phase being retained, with the consequent reduction in corrosion resistance.
For less demanding fabrications, such as spring contacts in a household outlet, an alloy with a higher zinc content (and therefore a lower price) can be used, such as CuZn37 (common brass). This alloy is not as ductile as CuZn30, although other mechanical properties are similar. They are perfectly suitable for all the most severe cold work operations.
